Quotes from passengers of the M.S. Pride of Hawaii, as written on www.cruisecritic.com:

I too was on the 11-27 Cruise. What a positive experience!
The ship is beautiful, the crew is excellent- friendly and aiming to please. I found NONE of the problems that others have mentioned on these boards. The food and service in the restaurants was
great- even the buffet! The cabin attendant was most accommodating and my cabin was CLEAN everyday. I did not take in any of the shows in the Stardust, but went each evening to listen to the Butch O'Sullivan Duo in the Aloha Atrium- they are fabulous! I only went on one tour- the day we disembarked- "The Highlights of O`ahu". If you have the time- do take this tour. It shows you a little more of the island and it's beautiful!

The following is the quote from;
Kupuna
Cool Cruiser

"For the main production shows there are 2 shows per night ; 7:30 and 9:30 PM , if I remember correctly . Yes , there are also comics , etc . but we did not make it to these . Actually , our favorite past time was to listen to the wonderful duo in the Atrium at various times ( Butch O'Sullivan ). There are lots of activities , ranging from Hula to sports to deck games , etc ."

Quotes from passengers of the M.S. Norwegian Wind, as written on www.cruisecritic.com:

The Music -- Think oldies and easy listening. Butch O'Sullivan does pretty Hawaiian Songs and other gentle melodies. He serenaded us twice at The Terraces. Patti and Jose are in the observatory doing hits from the '50s-'80s. There is an Asian band playing easy, dance music and a piano man playing more easy listening. Everyone was good, and if you hate hard rock, metal, blues, heavy bass, screaming leads, drums, punk, alternative rock, garage bands, and any song written after about 1985, the music on the ship is for you. So even though there were a number of good entertainers, there wasn't a lot of variety in their sound and repertoire. (Sorry, one of my only criticisms).

 - From COOPER&LOUISE, October 2005

My daughter and I recently were on the Norwegian Wind, (9-24-05), for an 11 day cruise. I have been on the Norwegian Star (December ’01 and April ’03), also cruised on the Pride of Aloha (December ’04), so am not new to cruising Hawaii. Of the NCL ships that I have been on, the Wind is a new favorite. I like the smaller size of the ship and it certainly has the best food that I have ever had on a cruise ship. The crew is friendly and efficient. Our cabin attendants Errol and Szilvia were the greatest. The meal service in the Four Seasons restaurant was the best.

While we were into relaxing aboard, more than being active (we saved that for the time we spent on the islands), there wasn’t a lack of things to do, if you wanted to keep busy.

Entertainment on the ship was fantastic. There was a group in Lucky’s and a duo in the Observation Lounge, that both played music for dancing. Butch O’Sullivan strolled the tables in the dining rooms some evenings, playing and singing requests. He played in the Coffee Bar and Lucky’s Lounge some nights, also played on the Pool deck on sea days, in the afternoon. We never missed taking advantage of listening to his beautiful 3 octave voice.

We did no tours on the islands, but just went wherever we decided to go that day. Having been to the islands several times before, we knew what we wanted to do, on each island.

I truly believe this was the best cruise I have taken—and my daughter agrees.

Quotes from passengers of the M.S. Norwegian Star

"Entertainment (production shows, Butch O'Sullivan, R. Carr) is the best we have seen on any cruiseline. Food in specialty restaurants is excellent. Food in buffet is borderline terrible. Interior decorating is gawdy."

"Very pleasureable cruise ... except for the rough waters. Really enjoyed Butch O'Sullivan's music and congeniality."
- mbonny@aol.com

"Variety Soloist, Butch O'Sullivan, singing in the Grand Atrium was the highlight of this cruise."

"The singer Butch O'Sullivan, in the Atrium, was a highlight on both of my cruises on the Norwegian Star."

"The only Hawaiian touch was Butch Niauhoe Kekaulike O'Sullivan, a superb entertainer who was relegated to the least accessible venues."

ENTERTAINMENT (on the NORWEGIAN STAR)

July 21-31, 2002

Entertainment excerpt from www.cruisereport.com

Written by cruise reporters, Mary & Vince Finelli

[...]  There were the usual cruise fun and games: Bingo, Horse races, Exercise and Dance classes (the Hula was taught in the Spinnaker Lounge with all six moves 1. hitch hike, 2. hooky (net), 3. everyone pull together, 3. bowl of food, 4. swish, 5. King and finally 6. clean the barrel. All these arm movements are done while swiveling hips and dancing step, step, toe! It made for great laughs. However, no Casino on this ship!

There were several shows featuring the Jean Ann Ryan Company which were on a par with other cruises. The show featuring the Chinese acrobatics and juggler was exceptional. BUT, the Hawaiian mood was beautifully set each evening in the Grand Atrium by Butch Niauhoe Kekaulike O'Sullivan, billed as "Three Octaves of Versatility," he was by far the most memorable voice aboard. His gentle manner with the audience and his clear explanations of the background of various songs were spellbinding. Whenever we passed through the atrium, we couldn't resist sitting and enjoying his dulcet tones and golden voice. Thanks for honoring Vincent's request for "The 12th of Never" with a very beautiful rendition.

The Norwegian Star has successfully incorporated Polynesian (Show time "The Drums of the Islands"), Chinese (Juggler and Acrobats), Hawaiian (Butch's memorable songs) and Pacific/Asian themes in the entertainment making this trip well worth it!!!  [...]
